Anna and Lauren love chocolate. And they come by it honestly.
I could pass on anything savoury any day. But, give me chocolate and I’m a happy, happy gal.
We started buying chocolate chips quite a while ago for special baked goods and now the girls are requesting them quite often. Andrew, my husband, is a little more hard-ass on the treats. But I figure since they’re not getting much processed food in their lunches, a few chocolate chips won’t hurt.
I balanced it out this day with some veggies and fruit and a sandwich on bakery-fresh bread. I’ve asked for a bread maker for Christmas. But until I get that, we’ve been shopping at the local bakery for our bread.
They bake there with fewer ingredients than you would find in store-bought bread. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with store-bought (I grew up on Wonderbread, after all). But I’m starting to try to shift away from foods with a bunch of things that I don’t really recognize.
And besides, who can resist fresh bakery bread??
Here’s what they ate today:
- Half a sunbutter and jam sammy on fresh bakery whole wheat bread
- Snap peas
- Organic sea-salt pretzel sticks (We go to a local health food/organic shop for these)
- Plain greek yogurt with chocolate chips on top
- Strawberries (they’re local and just finishing up their season right now. So delicious!)
You may have noticed that some of these lunches are repetitive. But that’s because we buy something like strawberries – and I give it to the girls for a week.
More variety to come next week! In the meantime, what are you guys eating these days?
